Message: I think it is about time that certain members woke up and realised the new age we are living in. Like it or not some of the most diehard and committed personnel in our club have acknowledged the age groups that lads rightly have the option to play. Minors will not reach the age of 16,17 decide to leave all teammates they have fought for throughout the years and focus primariy of training with Saul seniors. They will not want make a turnout on a Wednesday night to play with their minor teamamtes who consist of again MOSTLY u16s and have no idea of a team plan etc and hence let them down. Its farcical!!!It hasn't worked and it has left Saul minors either pushing for a runner-up/winner spot in LEAGUE C or abondening ship half way through the season. Years gone by it was fantastic to see the JPs, Davy Mac etc coming through at a young age - how that is done has changed - Saul club needs to evolve!!The minors are every bit as important as the u10s,12s,14s etc the doc and co. have been training and might I say doing a fantastic job!!the minors are the future...not the present and cannot make a transition from a 'B' league at u16s to Senior football - boys disappear and thats been the problem. There is one more step to senior football and that is Minors. Some of the best years of a young footballers life and we bypass them because we think we have to.Look at Downpatrick - 1 division above us - yes they have minors coming through on the senior panel but they have Minor training twice a week and those minors are selected from THEIR match to be apart of the senior panel on matchdays - thats when the pride kicks in for young lads..earning their badge by playing out of their skins with their teamates and succeeding!!Not pulling lads away from their age group and asking them to stand idol by a pitch with the old hats playing a different style than that of their minor teamates!!!Proof is there. Now the exceptional of the minors will be invloved I hold my hands up and say I in fact hope they are, every good minor should be involved at senior level...BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THEIR MINOR TEAMATES!!Because folks we need a more successful minor team than 'C league' if we want the seniors to improve..and for that to happen we need Minors to train blood, sweat and tears TOGETHER as a unit and then when the time is right they will move onto that next step together and be a formidable outfit (as they have been throughout their years together)!!It would be a pleasure to lead this next generation of Saul lads..watch this space!!!

Title: whole lotta debate
Message: Just reading through a few post's there and a lot of debate on minors training, I see no harm whats so ever ever in minors training with senior's its gone on for years, surely its the way most of us made the break to reserves and senior football. It certainly lets these younger lads know the level of commitment and level of training needed to acheieve in our amateur game!!! Travel to our friends in south down and have a look minors training 3 nights a week WITH senior's, unsurpising that they have championsip and league medals hang'n

Message: if btb dragged themseves away from longwinded diatribes on the computer ,to do a bit of exercise, they might realise that exercise can actually be enjoyable not a chore! They are free to choose to be a pontificating couch potato, but they shouldn't presume everybody else wants to be the same.PS.Most of the academic high achievers in Saul over the years were our best trainers.
