Match Report

Saul travelled to Liatroim to play League leaders St Marys. It was always going to be a tough task but Saul battled hard in the first half with good scores from Conor Curran, Timmy Russell and the excellent Matthew Conlon as well as great play in defence from Danny Toner, Ryan Tumelty and John Cunningham. Saul went in at half-time very much in the game only two points down. The second-half began poorly for Saul with two lapses of concentration leading to goals against them. Despite this Saul continued to battle hard, especially around the middle with tireless effort from Leigh Cunningham and Brendan Breen, deputising in midfield along with the ever-present John Cunningham. The two Cunningham’s registered Saul’s only scores in the second half, scoring four between them to lessen the deficit. This battling performance will no doubt spur Saul on to face Loughinisland in the first round of the championship on Tuesday night.
